SPRINGTIME - South Hill

Bands You Should Know: The Hotelier

The Hotelier (former The Hotel Year) from Worcester, MA, released their album "Home, Like NoPlace Is There" in 2014. The record starts with one of the best emopunkrock songs that I listened to this year which is rising for like three minutes and then escalates in an emotional outbreak that I love. The song is pretty much "An Introduction To The Album". I really enjoy the screaming voices parts of the lead singer together with his bandmates. My next highlight on the record is probably "In Framing" which is surely a love song, kindofa. Anyway, The Hotelier is an awesome live band. When we saw them @ C-Club in Berlin they made a funny joke - here you go: How many skateboarders does it take to change a light bulb? Three. One for changing it, one for filming it and one for telling how sick it was. LOL. I love this one. The probably deepest "emo line" for me shows up in song 4 of the album saying "I called in sick from your funeral" (song: Your Deep Rest). The band also has its "quiet" moments like in "Among The Wildflowers" which has a great hook. Parts of the singing really reminds me of the time when I listened to a lot of screamo bands. So if you like emotional punkrock/post-hardcore, or whatever, mixed with screaming vocals, don't miss this band. Seriously! The band was also ranked number 7 on Alternative Press' list of the "12 Biggest Moments of The Emo Revival in 2014". Something else to tell? They are touring the UK right now and will also play at the Primavera Sound Festival in Barcelona end of may. Their label is called Tiny Engines which I think I should check out more.

Modern Emo Band: MODERN BASEBALL

This band is absolutely amazing. I had the chance to see them live @Cassiopeia in Berlin some days ago together with Tiny Moving Parts and Into It. Over It.
What i like so much about MB is that they look totally normal (i know this sounds a bit weird but a lot of bands nowadays look too much like all hipsters look). They could totally be your best friends and on stage they're very funny and laugh alot together. Besides, their music is great.
So if you like all bands from the emo revival scene you better not miss them!

Learn about music: SALAD DAYS - A Decade of Punk in Washington, DC (1980-90)

Salad Days: A Decade of Punk in Washington, DC (1980-90)” is a documentary film that examines the early DIY punk scene in the Nation’s Capital. It was a decade when seminal bands like Bad Brains, Minor Threat, Government Issue, Scream, Void, Faith, Rites of Spring, Marginal Man, Fugazi, and others released their own records and booked their own shows—without major record label constraints or mainstream media scrutiny. Contextually, it was a cultural watershed that predated the alternative music explosion of the 1990s (and the industry’s subsequent implosion). Thirty years later, DC’s original DIY punk spirit serves as a reminder of the hopefulness of youth, the power of community and the strength of conviction.
