The 101
No, this is not the band that Joe Strummer played in (The 101ers) but it's a great band that features Eric Richter, singer of the 90's emo band Christie Front Drive. And I'm not really sure which I like most. Im just deeply in love with Eric's voice I guess.
The album Green Street by The 101 was released in 2005 and may remind some people of REM. And I would agree... but it's not a bad thing because The 101 made some great dynamic pop songs with great melodies (great!). The band broke up but Eric Richter continues in the project Golden City. I wished there would be more videos of The 101 in the world wide web. So if anyone knows where to find more, please leave a comment! thanks.

The Rural Alberta Advantage
I really absolutely adore this band! I must admit that I didn't pay much attention to The Rural Alberta Advantage for too long time. The Canadian indie rock trio formed in 2005. Their first full-length album Hometowns was re-released by Saddle Creek Records in 2009. And I really do love all songs on it! I like the dynamic in all of the songs. The album never gets boring. I guess my favorite is Four Night Rider. Check it.

1. The Ballad of The RAA
2. Rush Apart
3. The Dethbridge in Lethbridge
4. Don't haunt this place
5. The Deadroads
6. Drain the Blood
7. Luciana
8. Frank AB
9. The Air
10. Sleep All Day

Some Girls
Some Girls from California began in early 2002 with vocalist Wes Eisold (American Nightmare/Give Up the Ghost) and guitarist Rob Moran (ex-Unbroken) coming together with the common dream of creating a band that could be both brutal and innovative — and mess people up. I saw them live in Berlin years ago and remember a pretty awesome show that ended up in permanent screams of frontsinger Wes - who is really one of my favorites in the hardcore music scene. Justin Pearson (the Locust, Crimson Curse) joined the band as the bassist. They split up in 2007. Some Girls released music on Deathwish, ThreeOneG, and lastly Epitaph Records. The band also toured with the likes of Daughters, The Locust, Converge, and many more during their short life.
Releases by SG:
The Rains EP (2002)
The Blues EP (2002)
All My Friends Are Going Death (2003)
The DNA Will Have Its Say EP (2005)
Heaven's Pregnant Teens (2006)

Another band of Wes Eisold I really used to listen to very often is XO Skeletons. Check them out.

Kickball
Yay! Kickball! I really like this band. The trio plays some tender subtle math rock. I don't know if this is because they have a female drummer or because the singer has this fragile and fragmentary voice. Whatever. It's good and you should listen to it! They got four releases: Kickball, Huckleberry Eater, ABCDEFGHIJKickball and the newest album Everything Is a Miracle Nothing Is a Miracle Everything Is.
Oh, and they're from Olympia, Washington. check them out. //myspace//

Christie Front Drive
Time to post some old stuff, really old stuff, but good for all time, I guess! Christie Front Drive formed in 1993 as a part of the Colorado post-hardcore scene, influenced by bands such as Sunny Day Real Estate (also great!) and Superchunk. I really love the voice of Eric Richter (what a nice german name) and consider it as pretty unique and emotional. Even though they'd only exist for about four years, CFD had (and has) a huge influence on emo music scene. Caulfield Records released an Anthology CD of their first recordings. After the break in 1997, they continued in other bands such as The 101, The Blue Ontario, Antarctica and other new projects. They reunited for one show in 2007 where all four original band members participated.
Get the Anthology CD here!

Prawn
Prawn formed in Ridgewood, NJ, in the summer of 2007, when Kyle Burns joined Tony Clark, Jamie Houghton and Andrew Vilchez in the song writing process. Their first album, Basement Tapes, was written between the winter of 2007 and spring of 2008 and recorded in the summer of 2008. It was recorded, mixed and mastered by the band and finally released in October of 2008. Prawn played a few shows with bands such as Senses Fail, Moving Mountains, Pin Me Down and Sub Rosa (ex. Fenix TX) to promote Basement Tapes in late 2008.
Prawn did an East Coast tour in January of 2009, with shows that included Moving Mountains and Pompeii. Since then, Prawn has written a number of new songs that were recorded as their new EP, False Institutions, at Jesse Canon’s Canon Found Soundation studio with producer, Matt Mesiano, in Union City, NJ. False Institutions was mastered by West West Side studios and was released in June of 2009. The band then toured the US in the summer of 2009. Prawn plans to write new music and record a full-length album after their upcoming 2010 summer tour. (www.postrocking.com/post-rock-bands/prawn)
The EP False Institutions can be downloaded for free.

ORAL HISTORY OF CAP'N JAZZ
I am not really familiar with this magazine called ALTERNATIVE PRESS. but I bought the newest edition (june #263) in berlin last weekend because it contains an ORAL HISTORY OF CAP'N JAZZ. I was surprised to see it, so I spend six euro for it.
In anticipation of the upcoming reunion tour and vinyl release of Analphabetapolothology, the June issue of Alternative Press magazine features an oral history of Cap'n Jazz. The feature includes interviews with the all band members, Bob Nanna (Braid), Mark Pearsal (Man With Gun Records), Tim McIlrath (Rise Against) and several others who surrounded the band since its inception in 1989. The interviews present the story of the formation, demise, and reunion of Cap'n Jazz from those who lived through it.
I also searched the 5-page-article on the internet but didn't find anything. So I scanned the pages today. You can download the whole article here. Have fun reading!

Merchant Ships
This is an awesome screamo band from indiana. Merchant Ships formed in 2008, broke up in may 2009 and reunited in october. Since then, the band has released a Discography CD entitled “Shipsography” that consists of the two formerly released EPs (I Want to Forget Everything Bad that Ever Happened, Ever and Bummer Times demo) along with two newly recorded tracks. They self-released their newest ep "For Cameron" in june 2010. Two members also played in the band Midwest Pen Pals which I like also. You can download some old and new songs on lastfm.

Little Lungs
I like girls in bands, especially when they're doing a pretty good job like Little Lungs. The three-piece-band from brooklyn plays poppunk with some nice indierock tendencies with influence by Superchunk and Archers of Loaf. The singer Angie has an extraordinary voice. I wished I could sing like her. but whatever... they released the 7" Hoist Me Up (2008) and Living Hell (2010). The song "Pet Cemetery" is for free. Get it from lastfm.
