PUP - Dark Days (Official Video)

Great new video for PUP's single "Dark Days" which shows their tour life in a very funny way. From drunk nights and empty clubs to stagediving moments and crazy road stories like a van accident.
How dark days turned into a happy end.

Wavves x Cloud Nothings - No Life For Me

The following post is originally from the blog by jordienolie.com

I was pleased to see that the collaborative album by Wavves and Cloud Nothings called No Life For Me was released digitally on iTunes and Bandcamp. Its release was announced via the following Instagram and Tweeter posts by Wavves.

Ein von WAVVES (@wavves) gepostetes Foto am

According to Brooklyn Vegan, “The album was co-written by Wavves’ Nathan Williams and Cloud Nothings’ Dylan Baldi, and co-produced by Nathan and his brother and Sweet Valley/Spirit Club bandmate Joel. It also features Wavves drummer Brian Hill and additional vocals from Nathan’s Spirit Club bandmate Andrew Caddick. Despite initial reports that Vampire Weekend’s Rostam Batmanglij would appear on the record, his contribution didn’t end up making it on.”

The artwork for this record, which is essentially black hand lettering on red, is made by Nicholas Gazin, who seems to be very satisfied with this new album as stated in one of his tweets.
The physical release of the album, planned for October and limited to 1000 units, will be available in 2 different vinyl editions. The standard one which will be featuring the traditional black disc, and the limited one which will be beautifully red. Both are available for pre-order here.

I personally like it a lot. I like both bands and the fact of hearing typical sounds from them together, like the Wavves distorted guitar and voice or the “uuh uuh uuuuuuh uuh uuh” along with the Strokes-like guitar sound from Cloud Nothings or Dylan’s characteristic singing make it a perfect mixture. At the moment my favorite track is #2 How It’s Gonna go.

You can listen to the album below. For some reason it starts playing from the track #7, so make sure you check it out from the beginning!

SPRINGTIME - South Hill

Bands You Should Know: The Hotelier

The Hotelier (former The Hotel Year) from Worcester, MA, released their album "Home, Like NoPlace Is There" in 2014. The record starts with one of the best emopunkrock songs that I listened to this year which is rising for like three minutes and then escalates in an emotional outbreak that I love. The song is pretty much "An Introduction To The Album". I really enjoy the screaming voices parts of the lead singer together with his bandmates. My next highlight on the record is probably "In Framing" which is surely a love song, kindofa. Anyway, The Hotelier is an awesome live band. When we saw them @ C-Club in Berlin they made a funny joke - here you go: How many skateboarders does it take to change a light bulb? Three. One for changing it, one for filming it and one for telling how sick it was. LOL. I love this one. The probably deepest "emo line" for me shows up in song 4 of the album saying "I called in sick from your funeral" (song: Your Deep Rest). The band also has its "quiet" moments like in "Among The Wildflowers" which has a great hook. Parts of the singing really reminds me of the time when I listened to a lot of screamo bands. So if you like emotional punkrock/post-hardcore, or whatever, mixed with screaming vocals, don't miss this band. Seriously! The band was also ranked number 7 on Alternative Press' list of the "12 Biggest Moments of The Emo Revival in 2014". Something else to tell? They are touring the UK right now and will also play at the Primavera Sound Festival in Barcelona end of may. Their label is called Tiny Engines which I think I should check out more.

Coming Up Soon: WAY BACK WHEN FESTIVAL 2015 in Dortmund

Modern Emo Band: MODERN BASEBALL

This band is absolutely amazing. I had the chance to see them live @Cassiopeia in Berlin some days ago together with Tiny Moving Parts and Into It. Over It.
What i like so much about MB is that they look totally normal (i know this sounds a bit weird but a lot of bands nowadays look too much like all hipsters look). They could totally be your best friends and on stage they're very funny and laugh alot together. Besides, their music is great.
So if you like all bands from the emo revival scene you better not miss them!

Learn about music: SALAD DAYS - A Decade of Punk in Washington, DC (1980-90)

Salad Days: A Decade of Punk in Washington, DC (1980-90)” is a documentary film that examines the early DIY punk scene in the Nation’s Capital. It was a decade when seminal bands like Bad Brains, Minor Threat, Government Issue, Scream, Void, Faith, Rites of Spring, Marginal Man, Fugazi, and others released their own records and booked their own shows—without major record label constraints or mainstream media scrutiny. Contextually, it was a cultural watershed that predated the alternative music explosion of the 1990s (and the industry’s subsequent implosion). Thirty years later, DC’s original DIY punk spirit serves as a reminder of the hopefulness of youth, the power of community and the strength of conviction.

New fav series: BETTER CALL SAUL @ Netflix

Did you love Breaking Bad? Then you will hopefully adore this great series: BETTER CALL SAUL with actor Bob Odenkirk is following the story of the famous lawyer who was helping out Walter White and his family. Now the small-time lawyer has his own tv-series which is - in my opinion - simply great. I am watching BCS on netflix because they stream each new episode on tuesdays. Until now (25.2.) they already streamed 4 episodes which were really good and funny. You will also see some old faces from BB. Enjoy!

In Berlin there is a nice poster campaign for the series.

Upcoming Show: ZOLA JESUS @ Schwuz//Berlin on 10.3.2015

Nika Roza Danilova aka ZOLA JESUS is back with a new album called "Taiga". Okay, it's not super new but from autumn 2014. She will perform this record and hopefully some old songs soon @ Berlin Gay Club Schwuz in Neukölln. I'm really looking forward to this concert - Nika is a great singer and really touches my little heart with her songs. Her single "Dangerous Days" is actually one of my fav songs. Listen to it:
